Aw, shucks!

Your ever-caring government has ruled that restaurants must warn their moronic customers, and government officials assume that everyone is moronic except themselves, that eating shellfish is dangerous to their health.

Tapping into the source of Alzheimer's

It has been demonstrated in rats that fluoride enhances absorption of the aluminum. And we know that aluminum is found in the brains of most Alzheimer's patients.

A moving story

When I started my medical practice, back in the "olden days," most of my patients complained and worried about constipation. Judging from today's advertising for a plethora of laxatives and fiber supplements, I assume this is still a common concern.

A dangerous squeeze

For many years, I have been saying that people are misled by the false paradigm of "early detection of cancer leads to a cure." This mantra has been especially touted for breast cancer, with women being urged to get mammograms early and often.

More than "expensive urine"

Supplementing with vitamins and minerals is the only way to combat those deficiencies. And the benefits of supplements may go beyond simply establishing the status quo.

Health nuts

But Dr. Frank Hu, head of the study, reported to WebMD Medical News that "even when we adjusted for factors like smoking, exercise, and consumption of fruits and vegetables, nuts showed up as a powerful defense against heart disease."

No Sweat

For the past few decades, we've been continually bombarded by exercise propaganda that tells us bouncing around and working up a sweat is the key to good health.

It's your call

Tens of millions of people use cell phones. It seems that if they were a danger to health, we would have evidence of it by now. However, there is always the fear of long-term exposure with today's children.

Sunscreen warnings are a smokescreen

Ultraviolet deficiency, not UV excess, is responsible, not only for instances of melanoma skin cancer but also for increased rates of breast cancer.

Health Notes

1. I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry when I found out that “ER”-one of the most popular TV shows in the United States-devoted its season finale to the dramatization of a smallpox outbreak…I’m well aware that TV likes to make life look simple…but in this case they made it too simple and downplayed just how deadly and dangerous smallpox really is-and how big of a threat it is to U.S. citizens.

2. I don’t know where you will find pomegranate juice but some researchers think you should. Studies were done on atherosclerotic mice and healthy men to determine cholesterol changes in the blood. Now, first off, let me remind you that the cholesterol-causes-heart-disease paradigm is a weak one. But, for what it’s worth, here’s what the researchers found…

3. In one of my first Daily Dose e-letters, I talked about the 60 Minutes report that ran in mid-May regarding the new 300,000-member gun-control coalition-made up entirely of doctors who think confiscating guns is part of the Hippocratic oath (more like the Hypocritic oath, if you ask me).

4. The Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging done several years ago at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, “suggests” an association between anti-inflammatory agents and reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
