Avoiding Nitrous Oxide at All Cost
This dangerous-sounding compound could save your life
Not too many years ago, most health “authorities” considered nitrous oxide (NO) to be a toxin and recommended that it be avoided at all cost.
To appreciate the enormity of the NO discovery, let me quote Donna Krupa of the American Physiological Society:
“NO is produced by endothelial cells, which line the inner surface of all blood vessels. NO is a potent relaxing agent of arterial smooth muscle. It plays a major role in keeping the blood pressure of an individual from becoming dangerously high and in preventing blood vessels from spasming. In addition, NO inhibits the development of blood clots and the early processes of atherosclerosis.”
And it turns out that you can get your body to produce more NO with something so simple, it’s almost funny – berries.
Doctors from the University of Indiana School of Medicine found that certain chemicals, called anthocyanins, found in elderberries, chokeberries, and bilberries could nullify the destructive effects of oxidizing agents. These chemicals stimulate the all-important nitrous oxide (NO) production needed for cardiovascular health.
They tested the effects of four different extracts, each of the individual berry extracts and a mixture of all three. All of the extracts proved at least partially effective in helping the arteries to relax.
The doctors concluded that the chokeberry is superior to the other two berries. But where do you find chokeberries? To be honest, I’m not sure myself. I’ll find out and report back.
In the meantime, various brands of elderberry and bilberry extracts are available in many health food stores and pharmacies.
